Today, with the
public's increasing interest in rejuvenating skin and slowing the effects
of the aging process, chemical peeling has emerged as an exciting supplement
to a total skin care program. Facial peeling is a technique used to improve
the appearance of the skin. Dermatological surgeons have used various
peeling agents for decades and are experts in performing chemical peels.
In this treatment, a special solution is applied to the skin which
causes it to separate and eventually peel off. The new, regenerated skin
is usually smoother and less wrinkled than the old skin. The new skin
is also more even in color. Dr. Kwolek will thoroughly evaluate your skin
type to determine the appropriate type of chemical peel this is best for
you.

WHAT
CONDITIONS CAN A CHEMICAL PEEL IMPROVE?
Chemical peeling is often used as a "facial treatment" to enhance the
appearance of the face. It is used to treat sun damage, acne, "tired looking
skin," scaring and fine lines. Wrinkles caused by sun damage, aging and
hereditary factors can often be reduced or even eliminated with this procedure.
In
addition, pigmentation of the skin in the form of sun spots, age spots,
liver spots, freckles, blotches due to taking birth control pills, and
skin that is dull in texture and color may be improved with a facial peel.
It can be used, not only on the face, but on the arms, hands, neck, chest,
almost any body area!
WHERE
IS THE FACIAL PEEL DONE?
Right in Dr. Kwolek's office.
HOW
LONG DOES IT TAKE?
Including your office consultation with the doctor the total visit takes
about 15 minutes.
WILL
IT HURT?
Facial peels don't pierce the skin, so they don't "hurt." A mild stinging
sensation will be felt when the solution is on the skin. The next day,
your skin will appear "sun burned." Over the next several days (2-7) your
facial skin "will peel off." You will experience flaking of your facial
skin.
CAN
I RETURN TO MY REGULAR DAY'S ACTIVITIES?
The amount of peeling you experience and discoloration of your skin will
depend upon the type and strength of peel. The procedure is non-surgical,
so you can usually leave the dermatologist's office and go back to work,
school, or pick up the kids from soccer practice. You might want to schedule
the procedure well in advance of any special engagements. Also, avoid
sun exposure right after the treatment.
CAN
I EXERCISE AFTER MY PEEL?
Yes, as long as you avoid the sun, exercising is up to you.
WHAT
IS THE COST OF A FACIAL PEEL?
At the time of your consultation, Dr. Kwolek will determine the best solution
for your skin type, and give you an estimate on her fees for the procedure.
