Collagen is a simple,
non-surgical treatment, which can diminish lines, and wrinkles, of the
upper lip, smile lines, crow's feet, and forehead. Collagen can also be
used to improve the appearance of acne scars and other traumatic scars.
First, you be given a "patch test" to determine if you have
any allergic reactions to collagen. Two weeks later, a second test is
done. After a one month waiting period, if no allergic reactions are seen
you can start the treatment.
Collagen treatments are not permanent. The treatment usually lasts
two to six months.

WHAT
IS COLLAGEN?
Collagen is a bovine-derived product.
WHAT
IS INVOLVED WITH THE PATCH TEST?
Schedule an appointment with our office for a collagen patch test. A small
amount of collagen will be injected into the inside forearm to determine
if you are allergic. Only 3% of patients tested are allergic to it.
HOW
MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?
The number of treatments will depend upon your desired outcome.
DOES
IT HURT?
Realistically no injection is painless; so yes there is some discomfort.
A topical anesthetic and/or Tylenol may be used. You may experience some
swelling or bruising for several days. So do not schedule your collagen
the day before a special occasion.
HOW
LONG DOES THE TREATMENT TAKE?
Collagen treatments can take only minutes, depending upon how many areas
you wish to do.
HOW
LONG DOES THE COLLAGEN LAST?
Collagen treatments are not permanent. A touch-up or maintenance session
is required every two to six months to maintain the desired correction.
DO
I HAVE TO TAKE TIME OFF?
You can have your collagen treatment and return to your day, if you wish.
Most people avoid social activities like going out to dinner the same
day as their treatment.
WHAT
IS THE COST OF COLLAGEN?
At the time of your consultation, Dr. Kwolek will determine how much Collagen
will be needed to achieve your desired results, and give you an estimate
on her fees for the procedure.
