LIPOSUCTION SURGERY
Liposuction surgery is an effective body sculpturing technique - invented by a French surgeon in 1976 - that helps recontour fat deposits on both men and women. These localized fat deposits are more common on the neck, buttocks, thighs, knees, ankles, abdomen and, "love handles."

Liposuction will not benefit obese patients nor is it a substitute for weight loss. It is most effective in patients of relatively normal weight with good skin tone who have localized areas of fat accumulation that do not respond to dieting or exercise.

In liposuction surgery, a special fat extractor, or cannula, is used to extract the fat through a very small pin point incision. Tumescent Liposuction can be performed under local or general anesthesia or with a mild sedative in our specially-equipped surgical suite.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHO CAN PERFORM LIPOSUCTION?
A board-certified dermatologist, like Dr. Kwolek, is specially trained in Tumescent Liposuction. The use of Tumescent Liposuction allows dermatological surgeons to safely and effectively remove deep and superficial layers of fat under local anesthesia.

WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO PRIOR TO MY LIPOSUCTION?
Schedule an appointment with Dr. Kwolek, where the two of you will review your medical history as well as discuss the areas of your body you would like to recontour.

During the consultation, the doctor will describe the procedure and what you can expect.

Usually, the dermatological surgeon will take some photographs, for recording your before image, and provide you with pre-treatment instructions, such as washing and taking certain vitamins.

WHAT HAPPENS AT THE TIME OF MY SURGERY?
Usually, the doctor has prescribed a mild relaxant, which you will be told to take on your way to the appointment. You are advised to wear very loose, old clothing, and have someone drive you.

HOW LONG DOES THE PROCEDURE TAKE?
The procedure takes from 30 minutes to several hours depending upon how many areas are being treated.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER SURGERY? DO I HAVE TO TAKE OFF WORK?
The doctor will provide you with a post-operative instruction sheet specific to your liposuction treatment. Usually, you are advised to rest for 24-48 hours, and take medication as prescribed.

A suppression garment is worn for a prescribed period of time.

Many people feel comfortable to return to work after one or two days.

CAN I EXERCISE?
The dermatologist usually suggests refraining from impact exercise a couple of weeks. Your body will actually tell you when its ready, and you can return to your workout program slowly.

WHAT IS THE COST OF LIPOSUCTION?
At the time of your consultation, Dr. Kwolek will determine the areas to be treated and the time required to treat them to achieve your desired results. She will then give you an estimate on her fees for the procedure(s).
